Why are there so many different versions of the Bible?

In my opinion, there are so many versions of the Bible around because man has decided to "slice and dice" God's word in an effort to self-justify his actions/beliefs, take what he CAN feel as if he can live up to, remodel the rest, put it in a package and call it "God's Word."
