Can anyone help me with a problem with Dell 17" LCD monitor?

When it's plugged into pc, the Windows 98 startup flashes and goes black.. the power on just flashes and doesn't stay solid green.. i'd like to open the monitor but haven't figured out how to do that yet.. there's a "Lock" hole in the back of the monitor and i put a screwdriver in it but don't want to break anything :D any tips? the model # is E172FPb (made in china)
